Kubyz by Vakhitov of the Tartarstan region of Russia are sturdy and easy to play, making them ideal for beginner harpists as well as advanced players.

Vakhitov are loud and boast some saturation while still producing mostly clean bell tones. They can be plucked in either direction, with inward plucks being preferred. Kubyz Large have a medium to long sustain and get very “outer-spacey” sounding when playing fast and using open/close glottis techniques. They have a fast response that works well during techno and percussive style play. The Large Tartar Kubyz are technically untuned, but most fall on near D2 in standard scale.
