Mohan Traditional Low Morchang
Mohan Traditional Low Morchang
Hand forged in Rajasthan, the Traditional Low Morchang embodies exactly what Mohan is about. This instrument is a stiff reeded, and powerful Morchang with exceptionally tight gaps.
The sound, when played by an experienced Morchang player, will cut through the air like a samurai sword! A tight buzzing melody with either slow or fast responsive percussive beats, and loud resonance while practicing open/close glottis play in the Rajasthani style will make for an outstanding experience each time it is played. This particular style of harp will play noticeably better with an inward style plucking method.
Learning open/close glottis discipline is a requirement of this instrument. See Jaw harp technique tutorials page under option “Shop” for details on open/close style play. Low Traditional may not be recommended for beginners due to the stiff reed, very tight gap tolerances, and open close requirements. For Morchang enthusiasts and intermediate players these are a favorite. These Morchang are typically untuned and will fall anywhere between G2 and A2# depending on each individual instrument.
Due to the hand forged nature of these Morchang, the appearance and sound may vary slightly, resulting in each Morchang having its own individual timbre and personality. The Traditional Low will be lower pitched than the Medium and High.
